Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR)
Heal from Trauma. Move Forward with Confidence.
At Holistic Family Centre, we understand that difficult life experiences can continue to affect your thoughts, emotions, relationships, and overall wellbeing long after the event has passed. Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an evidence-based therapy that helps people process traumatic memories and reduce the emotional distress associated with them, allowing them to move forward with greater confidence and resilience.
Unlike traditional talk therapy, EMDR does not require you to repeatedly describe traumatic events in detail. Instead, it helps your brain naturally reprocess distressing memories so they become less overwhelming and no longer have the same emotional impact.
What is EMDR?
EMDR is a structured psychotherapy approach developed to help people recover from trauma and other distressing life experiences. During treatment, your therapist guides you through a series of bilateral stimulation techniques, such as eye movements or tapping, while you briefly focus on specific memories or emotions.
This process helps the brain reprocess information that has become "stuck," allowing distressing memories to be stored in a healthier way. As healing occurs, many people notice a significant reduction in anxiety, fear, emotional distress, and negative beliefs about themselves.
